9th – 21st July.
Bristol Old Vic’s Ferment Fortnight returns to showcase exciting new work from across the South West.
Now in its eighth year, work-in-progress festival Ferment Fortnight is back and ready to showcase some of the finest talent in the South West. The rehearsal room doors will be prised open to introduce new and original work by inspiring artists, presenting them at the Arnolfini and on Bristol Old Vic’s main stage. The festival will feature “scratch” performances by Inspector Sands, In Bed with My Brother, Vanessa Kisuule and Willy Hudson amongst many other emerging and established theatre-makers.
As always, the audience will play a crucial part of the Ferment process as they are invited to feedback on each artist’s work to help them develop and grow.
First-time Fermenters, Clownfish, explain why this process is so important: “Ferment has always been something to aspire to. It is the perfect opportunity to kick our fledgling show out of the nest and see if it flies. To be able to test out a new show with support from such brilliant, experienced people is invaluable”.
Ferment is the artist development department of Bristol Old Vic. A year round quest to find, support and nurture local talent, Ferment provides South West artists with an opportunity to explore their theatrical ideas in an ongoing dialogue with audiences. By inviting artists whose work spans genre and form to experiment, play and make the theatre of tomorrow, Ferment continues to develop these vital local voices, offering tailored advice throughout the development process.
