24 – 28 January

Theatre Royal Bath welcomes two of the world’s most popular classical ballets, The Nutcracker and Swan Lake, performed by The International Classic Ballet Theatre and accompanied by a live orchestra, from Tuesday 24th to Saturday 28th January.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s sweeping scores have the power to transport audiences, each composition a masterpiece perfectly complementing the dancers and narrative, especially when performed by a live orchestra.

The Nutcracker, which appears on Tuesday 24th, Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th January, is a feast for the senses. Full of magic and wonder and recommended for audiences of all ages, Tchaikovsky’s festive ballet tells the enchanting tale of Clara’s adventures with her Nutcracker Prince. When Clara’s Nutcracker doll comes to life on Christmas Eve, his daring battle with the Mouse King is just the start of the excitement, before Clara is whisked off to the Land of Snow and greeted by dancing snowflakes. A host of spectacular dances complete an extraordinary night before Clara wakes to wonder if it’s all been a dream.

Appearing on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th January, Swan Lake portrays the romantic story of dashing Prince Siegfried who falls in love with Odette, the captivating Queen of the Swans. The wicked sorcerer Von Rothbart uses his magic to thwart their happiness and trick the Prince in a thrilling tale of love that triumphs over evil. Accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s sublime and instantly recognisable score, this timeless classic is one of the world’s most evocative and best-loved ballets, a favourite of dedicated dance fans and first-time ballet-goers alike.

The International Classic Ballet Theatre’s company of international dancers visit the UK following performances in the United States, where they toured extensively in 2022. The company are selected by Georgia-born Artistic Director, Marina Medvetskaya, a disciple of Vakhtang Chaboukiana and former prima ballerina of Tbilisi State Academic Opera and Ballet, with each dancer chosen for their grace, skill and athleticism, essential for the classical style of ballet presented.

Artistic Director Marina Medvetskaya said, “I adore bringing these iconic ballets to the UK where there is such a love for the classics. I take great pride in selecting the best dancers from across the globe to ensure that audiences have a wonderful experience and become ballet lovers for life.”
