Award-winning West End sensation PRIDE AND PREJUDICE* (*SORT OF) tours to Bath for the first time
Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of), Isobel McArthur’s audacious retelling of Jane Austen’s most iconic love story, is set to visit the Theatre Royal Bath from Monday 30th January to Saturday 4th February following its triumph in the West End, where it won the 2022 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy and garnered a host of five-star reviews.
It’s the 1800s. It’s party time. Let the ruthless matchmaking begin. Men, money and microphones will be fought over in this irreverent but affectionate adaptation where the stakes couldn’t be higher when it comes to romance. The show features a string of pop classics including Young Hearts Run Free, Will You Love Me Tomorrow and You’re So Vain.
The cast for the 2023 tour, who play multiple roles in the show, includes Leah Jamieson, who made her West End debut in Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of), as Anne, Mary Bennet, Lydia Bennet and Mr Gardiner, and Lucy Gray, who made her professional debut in Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) in the West End and reprises her role as Tillie, Charlotte Lucas, Charles Bingley and Miss Bingley. Emmy Stonelake, whose stage credits include As You Like It for Shakespeare in the Squares and Beauty and the Beast at the Liverpool Everyman, appears as Effie and Elizabeth Bennet; Megan Louise Wilson, whose stage credits include The Mousetrap in the West End and Pool No Water at London’s Royal Court, plays Clara, Jane Bennet and Lady Catherine de Burgh; and Dannie Harris, whose theatre credits include Love Letters at the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, and The New Musketeers, which she wrote and starred in at the Trinity Theatre, appears as Flo, Mrs Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. The company is completed by Laura Soper and Ruth Brotherton.
In addition to winning the Olivier Award for Best Comedy last year, the production’s writer and co-director, Isobel McArthur also won the 2022 Evening Standard Emerging Talent Award. Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) originally played at Glasgow’s Tron Theatre in 2018, followed by a UK tour in 2019/2020 and a West End transfer in 2021, before returning on nationwide tour in 2022/2023.
Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) is directed by Isobel McArthur and Simon Harvey. Comedy staging is by Jos Houben with design by Ana Inés Jabares-Pita and lighting by Colin Grenfell. Musical supervision is by Michael John McCarthy, with sound design by Michael John McCarthy and Luke Swaffield for Autograph and choreography by Emily Jane Boyle.
