19 June – 2 August

Launching on 19th June for a six-week run up to 2nd August, Insane Root Theatre announces its groundbreaking new summer 2025 show – Shakespeare’s Henry V set in the dramatic location of the 14th century Temple Church, just off Bristol’s Victoria Street, Redcliffe.

Known for their hugely popular immersive shows in atmospheric Bristol locations such as, the Redcliffe Caves, Eastville Park Lido, Arnos Vale Cemetery and the Clifton Suspension Bridge, the Insane Root team is now transforming this haunting ruin which dates back to the Knights Templar into the fields of Agincourt.

Recently reopened by English Heritage after 30 years, this historic site in central Bristol provides a striking backdrop to highlight the play’s themes of resilience, conflict and renewal. Reimagining the narrative through a modern lens, this production will celebrate female strength and leadership, inspiring a new generation of theatre-makers while attracting diverse audiences passionate about heritage and innovative storytelling.

This evocative open-air performance will present a thrilling retelling of the Bard’s work by championing an all-female and non-binary cast and creative team: adapted to just under two hours’ running time and featuring original songs from acclaimed local composer Ellian Showering (Macbeth, The Tempest, Hansel & Gretel – Insane Root).

Henry V will be tailored to the site’s blend of medieval and modern architecture, and reflect themes such as loss, the complexities of war, leadership, and loyalty. Action will take place all around and amongst the audience, with integrated acapella harmonies, electronic sound, and a dynamic, site-responsive design.
