NAT AND VIC’S GUIDE TO BEING AN INDEPENDENT WOMAN

Have you ever wished there were more plays about financial security and fiscal independence? Yeah, I know, me neither. But even so, you should definitely try this one! Nat (Natalie Thomas) and Vic (Victoria Briggs) want to live feminist lives, channelling their inner Beyoncé, celebrating their independence, but…what do you do if your male partner makes more than you because of the gender pay gap? If you’re suffering the effects of the pink task? If you think that on a first date, dinner should be split in proportion to your income (awkward conversations be damned)?

Nat and Vic’s Guide to Being an Independent Woman is packed with facts about societal inequality, particularly when it comes to finances, but they still have us all having fun throughout, with their Beyoncé-dancing, a Countdown-style maths challenge (I was not good at this portion), and a dollop of advice doled out at the end with chocolates. I thoroughly enjoyed this show, and ended up chatting to the actors afterwards. I think they should make the chat an official part of the show – after all, the best way to get people to care about gender inequality is to get us all talking about it! Loved it!      ★★★★☆   @BookingAround   29th June 2019

MANTRA

Marv Radio is the writer and performer of Mantra – a storytelling experience that weaves together spoken word, music, and beatboxing, all performed with little more than a microphone and a looping machine. This is a story of exploring, of trying to find the right path through life, even when things don’t seem very clear. Marv takes us on his journey of discovery, from a bedroom in South London to the Amazon rainforest and back again, allowing us glimpses into some of the emotional toil that took him on this journey, and all conveyed through the medium of his voice. Marv is a talented vocalist, but it is the realness and rawness he uses to tell his story that makes this such a compelling piece of theatre – you can’t help but be drawn in by it.   ★★★★☆     @BookingAround       29th June 2019
