Gripping debut play, and Theatre Royal Plymouth seed commission, currently on a South West Tour

Kindle is a vital new play by Hattie Collins, currently on a South West tour, following its debut
performance at VAULT Festival 2023, and a nomination for the VAULT Origins Award. This compelling
piece of new-writing tells the story of a close-knit family from Devon, struggling to run a rural petrol
station, exploring themes of duty, modern rural community, climate change, and the impacts of the
ever-rising cost of living.

The play started its journey as a seed commission from Theatre Royal Plymouth in 2019. It was then
further developed through support from Exeter Northcott’s Artist scheme, before receiving funding
from Arts Council England for 2023. The funding will support a studio and rural tour, workshops,
collection of oral histories and the making of a short illustrated film based on creative output from
workshops in rural communities.

Some of the female-led, and South West based creative team include Writer and Co-Producer Hattie
Collins, Director Rachael Walsh (Bristol Old Vic graduate, and recipient of the JMK Victoria Wood
bursary, 2021), and Composer and Sound Designer, Rowan Evans (Antigone, Bristol Old Vic Young
Company, How to Start a Fire, Stockroom / FEN / Rising Arts).
