26 – 27 May

Vampire comedy THE DEMETER docks at the Bath Fringe for World Dracula Day

A hilarious and chilling experience awaits at the historic Mission Theatre  in Bath as THE DEMETER, a black comedy inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula, appears on Sunday 26th May and World Dracula Day on Monday 27th.

THE DEMETER follows the journey of the merchant ship unwittingly transporting the infamous Count to England. Its gaggle of miscreant sailors soon find themselves in a nightmare as they are picked off one by one by a malevolent and unseen force. Paranoia and fear grip the sailors as they struggle to survive the terror that lurks among them.

The play, which premiered in Bristol to sell-out audiences in 2023, has been praised for its unique blend of horror and comedy. Written by local playwright Lewis Cook, a graduate of the National Film and Television School and BBC Radio Four contributor, THE DEMETER promises to deliver a fresh and humorous take on the classic tale of Dracula. Cook’s sharp and irreverent writing style brings a new perspective to the story, poking fun affectionately at the themes of the original novel.

Directed by Laura Ollerton and produced by Boogie Nachts Theatre, THE DEMETER looks to be a thrilling and entertaining production that will leave theatre-goers on the edge of their seats. Audiences will need nerves of steel and robust funny bones as they follow the crew’s harrowing journey.

THE DEMETER is part of the 2024 Bath Fringe Festival, showcasing the best of local talent and creativity. The Mission Theatre is the perfect venue for this dark and comedic production, providing an intimate setting for audiences to immerse themselves in the world of Dracula.

With World Dracula Day falling on Monday 27th May, the performance of THE DEMETER is sure to be a fitting tribute to the iconic vampire. Fans of horror, comedy, and classic literature alike are encouraged to secure their tickets early to avoid missing out on this one-of-a-kind theatrical experience.
