Cameron Mackintosh and Disney’s spectacular production of the classic multi award-winning musical MARY POPPINS opens its UK and Ireland tour by flying into the Bristol Hippodrome this month.

Acclaimed Australian stars, Stefanie Jones and Jack Chambers reprise their roles as Mary Poppins and Bert.

Cameron Mackintosh said today “I am absolutely thrilled to be bringing Mary Poppins back, opening at the Bristol Hippodrome where she first took flight 20 years ago when we opened the first ever stage musical adaptation of Pamela Travers’ books, featuring many of the great Sherman brothers’ songs from The Walt Disney Company’s iconic movie.

Based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney film, the timeless score includes the classic songs by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman; Jolly Holiday, Step in Time, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and Feed the Birds with new songs and additional music and lyrics by the Olivier award-winning British team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.

Local actor Rhys Batten is one of the cast members.

Rhys Batten was born in Chipping Sodbury and grew up in Yate. The first stage Rhys ever performed on was ours when he was a child in BLOC productions Oliver in 2006. Now he has returned to Bristol to take to our stage again, but this time as a professional actor in Cameron Mackintosh and Disney Theatrical Group’s multi-award-winning musical.

“I fell in love with performing at the Bristol Hippodrome as a child which was the first stage I ever performed on. Now I am back performing on that very as a professional actor for the first time ever as a part of the ensemble for the award multi award-winning musical Mary Poppins. It’s a real full circle moment for me.” – Rhys Batten.
