6 December – 4 January
JEEVES TAKES CHARGE brings comedy to Bath’s Ustinov Studio as new production opens for the festive season.
Acclaimed one-man show, Jeeves Takes Charge by P.G. Wodehouse, will be staged at the Ustinov Studio across the festive season appearing from Friday 6th December to Saturday 4th January, directed by Hugh Wooldridge. Two of the best-loved characters in comic literary history, P.G. Wodehouse’s Jeeves and Wooster, are brought hilariously to life in a new production of the heart-warming stage show which has been seen all over the world.
Highlighted by The Guardian as one of the top 20 shows to watch this Christmas, Jeeves Takes Charge sees the impeccably brilliant butler keeping himself in employment by ensuring his amiably goofy young master remains unmarried, with laugh-out-loud results.
West End, Chichester and RSC favourite Sam Harrison plays all twenty-two, much-loved characters – including Jeeves, Wooster, Florence Craye, Gussie Fink-Nottle, Bingo Little, Uncle Willoughby, Aunt Dahlia and many more – in a tour-de-force performance, transporting audiences back to an age where work is unthinkable and keeping in with your relatives is of paramount importance!
Sam Harrison’s stage credits include Crazy For You at Chichester Festival Theatre and in the West End; Love Is Only Love at The Other Palace and Chichester’s Minerva Theatre; Les Misérables in the West End and Eastward Ho! at Shakespeare’s Globe.
Director Hugh Wooldridge’s many stage productions include Play on Words, a celebration of PG Wodehouse and his fellow wordsmiths, on Broadway, The Best of Rock Musicals at Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo and The Night of 1000 Voices at the Royal Albert Hall.
The show originally premiered at the Lyric Hammersmith and the Sydmonton Festival in the early 80s before transferring to the West End, starring Edward Duke (Olivier Award for Most Promising Newcomer), produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Cameron Mackintosh and Barbara Thompson. Over the next twelve years, Jeeves Takes Charge played in South Africa, Canada, Australia and in America.
Adapted for the stage by Edward Duke and Hugh Wooldridge, the 2024 revival of Jeeves Takes Charge is produced by Theatre Royal Bath Productions. The creative team also includes Tim Shortall as Set and Costume Designer, Tim Mitchell as Lighting Designer, Paul Groothuis as Sound Designer and Caite Hevner as Video Designer.
Jeeves Takes Charge appears at the Ustinov Studio from Friday 6th December to Saturday 4th January. Tickets are on sale at the Theatre Royal Bath Box Office on 01225 448844 and online at theatreroyal.org.uk/ustinov
