Picasso: Le Monstre Sacré visits Bath’s Ustinov Studio starring Peter Tate, directed by Guy Masterson.

An undisputed genius, a visionary artist, yet Picasso’s obsession often destroyed those he professed to love. Multi-award-winning actor Peter Tate is the Founder and Artistic Director of The Playground Theatre, London. Peter trained in London and New York, where he began his career with credits Stateside including The Bacchae on Broadway and Richard III with the American Shakespeare Company. Peter returned to London to play a leading role at the National Theatre opposite Alan Bates, before an invitation by the Actors Studio New York took him back to America to play the co-lead as Prince Felix Yussopov in Rasputin. More recently, Peter has played the lead in Tabloid Caligula at the Brits Off-Broadway in New York City, appeared in the title role in Macbeth in Poland and starred in American Justice in London’s West End. His stage version of Odd Man Out has won numerous awards, with his short film adaptation of the play also winning multiple awards at international film festivals.

Adaptor and director of Picasso: Le Monstre Sacré, Guy Masterson is a theatre director, actor, writer and Olivier Award-winning producer. During a career spanning four decades, Guy has become widely known for his own solo performances including Under Milk Wood, Animal Farm and A Christmas Carol, which he has performed over 2,000 times across the world. Guy has performed at the Theatre Royal Bath many times, most recently in Animal Farm in 2024 and A Christmas Carol in 2023 and 2024. The most successful and award-winning independent theatre producer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Guy has presented over 130 shows in 27 seasons, including 12 Angry Men, Morecambe and The Odd Couple, which transferred to the West End and won an Olivier Award for Best Entertainment. In 2019, Guy directed The Shark is Broken, initially at the Edinburgh Fringe, followed by acclaimed transfers to the West End and Broadway. The hit play, which visited Bath in March, is currently touring the UK for the first time.

American playwright and filmmaker, Terry D’Alfonso wrote The Loves of Picasso, which has been adapted for Picasso: Le Monstre Sacré.
