Mark Hadfield (Belfast, Outlander, Wallander) is set to star as infamous detective Hercule Poirot in the European premiere of a new adaptation of the globally celebrated Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile.
Joining Mark Hadfield on stage will be Glynis Barber (Dempsey and Makepeace, EastEnders) as Salome Otterbourne and Bob Barrett (Murder on the Orient Express, Holby City) as Colonel Race in this brand-new adaptation of the Agatha Christie classic. On board a luxurious cruise under the heat of the Egyptian sun, a couple’s idyllic honeymoon is cut short by a brutal murder. As secrets that have been buried in the sands of time finally resurface, can the world-famous detective, Hercule Poirot, untangle the web of lies and solve another crime?
Mark Hadfield’s many theatre credits include Dr Strangelove (Noel Coward Theatre); Accidental Death of An Anarchist (Theatre Royal Haymarket) and Notes From A Small Island (Watermill Theatre). Mark has performed at the Theatre Royal Bath many times from The Miser in 1995 to Donkey’s Years in 2007 and more recently with The Tempest in 2012 and The Libertine in 2016, which transferred to the West End’s Theatre Royal Haymarket.
Glynis Barber has performed in numerous UK repertory theatres and theatre tours with credits including Macbeth (Stafford Shakespeare Festival); Beautiful – The Carole King Musical (West End); Stalking the Bogeyman (Southwark Playhouse) and The Graduate (UK tour) and The Best Man for which she visited Theatre Royal Bath in 2003 and 2017 respectively.
Bob Barrett is best known on television as Sacha Levy in Holby City, a role he played from 2010 to 2022. His film credits include John Madden’s Shakespeare in Love. On stage, he recently appeared in the UK tour of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, also directed by Lucy Bailey, which played Bath in 2024 and Murder on the Orient Express in 2025. His previous appearances at the Theatre Royal also include Hamlet, alongside Michael Maloney in 2004, and The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby Parts 1 & 2 in 2007
The cast is completed by Libby Alexandra-Cooper as Linnet Ridgeway, Camilla Anvar as Rosalie Otterbourne, Howard Gossington as Atticus Praed, Esme Hough as Jacqueline de Bellefort, Helen Katamba as Annabelle Pennington, Nye Occomore as Simon Doyle, Nicholas Prasad as Ramses Praed and Terence Wilton as Septimus Troy, with David Boyle, Max Dinnen and Nadia Shash in the ensemble.
Death on the Nile is directed by Lucy Bailey and designed by Mike Britton, with lighting design by Oliver Fenwick, sound design by Mic Pool and movement direction by Liam Steele. Lucy Waterhouse is associate director and Helena Palmer casting director
