WEST END TRANSFER FOR ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY’S PRODUCTION OF ARTHUR MILLER’S DEATH OF A SALESMAN IN THE CENTENARY YEAR OF MILLER’S BIRTH
DEATH OF A SALESMAN
by Arthur Miller
Directed by Gregory Doran
The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) announces today that Gregory Doran’s production of Arthur Miller’s 1949 Pulitzer Prize-winning play Death of a Salesman will transfer to the Noël Coward Theatre in London’s West End, following its run in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The entire Stratford cast, led by Antony Sher and Harriet Walter has received recent critical acclaim and will transfer for a ten week run from 9 May until 18 July 2015.
RSC Artistic Director, Gregory Doran, said: “Death of a Salesman is, without doubt in my mind, the greatest American play of the 20th Century and it has taken its rightful place, alongside Shakespeare, on our main stage in Stratford-upon-Avon, to mark the centenary of Arthur Miller’s birth. I am delighted we are able to share this production with London audiences at the Noël Coward Theatre, and am grateful to Interbrand, our Official Brand partner, for their sponsorship.”
This production joins three other RSC shows in London this spring:
- The transfer of the RSC/ETT touring production of A Mad World My Masters, which will play at the Barbican for two weeks from 29 April – 30 May
- Tom Morton-Smith’s new play Oppenheimer, which is currently playing at the Vaudeville theatre until 23 May 2015
- Matilda The Musical, which continues to play to packed houses at the Cambridge Theatre
As announced recently, the RSC will also open the Shakespeare jubilee year of 2016 in London, with ‘King and Country: Shakespeare’s Great Cycle of Kings’ at the Barbican. Gregory Doran’s productions of Richard II, Henry IV Parts I & II, and Henry V will play together for the first time, running in repertoire from 7 November 2015 – 24 January 2016, alongside a film festival ‘RSC Shakespeare on Film’ co-hosted with Barbican Cinemas.
