★★★★☆ This is a story about the resilience of NHS staff, how many of them have to deal with racism (not only from patients, but in microaggressions from colleagues), but also about how they find moments of joy and friendship. It’s a story of isolation and alienation; of children and their parents, and what happens when we can’t reconcile ourselves with the views of our families.

★★★★☆ Khan understands the power of a good silence better than almost any comedian I’ve seen. He holds every joke for what seems like a beat too long, except it is absolutely perfect timing, as his facial expressions in these moments have the audience in stitches.

Review: THE LIFE I LEAD on tour

★★★★★ Towards the end, Tomlinson touches on the core of what I think the play does perfectly. He says that he is always careful to stop and speak to people who think of him as Mr Banks. He says ‘Be careful with other people’s memories’. This is precisely what this play does – it’s a wonderful nostalgia trip, while telling a story which will be new to much of the audience. An utter delight.
