★★★★☆ For those not familiar, Balletboyz is a dance company founded in 2000 by a pair of alumni from The Royal Ballet. Their multi-award winning record speaks for itself and it has been with some anticipation that I have been awaiting their newest show.

★★☆☆☆ It is intensely frustrating when there are clear virtues in a play but it is ultimately unwound by too many hiccups and overarching structural issues. Such is the case with Great Expectations . . . It’s a great pity. I just wish the talent off-stage had been working as hard as the people on it.

★★★★★ The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk captures all the humour, affection, bickering, compromise, resentment and reconciliation of a real relationship. On top of this it stands as an insightful and personal account of a now lost period of Eastern European Jewish culture

IL TABARRO and GIANNI SCHICCHI . The former is simply staged against a large monolithic dock that looms over the singers – perhaps hammering home a sense of their insignificance and futility. Gianni Schicchi is cluttered, bustling and lived in. It is looks and feels elaborate. Overall, an excellent short season from ETO at the Everyman – as usual.
