Danny is a frustrated, thoughtful, charming young man, and over the course of an hour we learn a lot more about him than meets the eye and, more pertinently, much more than he would imagine anyone would care about. He has a mum and some mates, but what he really wants, is someone to take an interest in him and help him make sense of his place in the world . . . Danny may not yet be a champ, but the play is a knockout.

Their previous association with this venue has been the curating and presenting multi-genre work and the company’s familiarity with the performance space helps present this short piece in a confident and well balanced way . . . At its heart the story is about love, loss and revenge. There are also hints of jealousy, guilt and mental illness.

This show is at heart a revival. Not of Shakespeare, because he doesn’t need it, but of a theatrical genre not much seen since the 1960s. Revue used to be a popular staple of the theatre and found favour as a more upmarket, slightly more sophisticated variety show, performed by a small company working with a thematic selection of witty and clever material. It was meant to make you feel better about your life. Above all it had to be funny.
