★★★★☆ Owen Sheers’ poem-play To Provide All People was originally written in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the NHS. It was premiered in 2018 in a star-studded BBC film, directed by Pip Broughton . . .

★★★★☆ In these socially distanced times, what could be more relevant than a play about connectivity? Buzzing was written by Anita Karla Kelly as part of Graeae Theatre Company’s ‘Write to Play’ programme, and there was a time when the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School was looking forward to presenting it as a stage production in the Bristol Old Vic’s Weston Studio. 

★★★☆☆ The original Faust myth, based on the historical person of Johann Faust, concerns a man who prefers earthly to religious knowledge and enters into a pact with the devil for unlimited knowledge and a fair dollop of earthly pleasure. Small surprise then that he has continued to be the inspiration of numerous artistic works.

★★★☆☆ This production, by the Bristol Old Vic Theatre school, highlights a certain problem faced by the school or producer when choosing a production which allows students to get a fair crack of the whip in showcasing their talents.

★★★★☆ Bidding farewell to youth, becoming the next older generation, being solely responsible for one’s life, can all be fearful freefall-type moments. Diverse City pull no punches here, but in this brutally honest exposé of mid-life menopausal crisis, there is something endearingly human about Claire, Jacqui and Karen’s stories. And by the end we are literally dancing with them to the tune of I Am What I Am by Gloria Gaynor.
