Opening in 1997, the Alma Theatre takes great pride in being the oldest pub theatre in Bristol. Converted into a perfect black box theatre with 48 in-tiered seating from what used to be two separate function rooms, it is an incredibly versatile space that has seen hundreds of productions, many of which have been world premieres. It has strong ties with most local theatre companies and is committed to championing new writing from the Bristol Theatre Scene.
For many years Bristol favourites, Theatre West, held a seasonal residency of original writing. We work with university societies and amateur groups from the South-West to showcase their work as well as including some of the best touring theatre companies in our programme. Our other connections include Bristol Old Vic, Hecate Theatre and Red Rope to name a few. Every season we have a host of varied productions that complement the diverse nature of the city and beyond.
